Every life is precious
Every life is precious in the eyes of God. Life is a gift from God. We didn't create it. God did. From Jeremiah we read, "Before I formed thee in the bowels of thy mother, I knew thee: and before thou camest forth out of the womb, I sanctified thee, and made thee a prophet unto the nations." And in Deuteronomy we are told: "This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live."
So, every life is precious. We know this from the depths of our souls. We saw this from the recent a life surviving miracle in the earthquake in Venezuela. The terrible disaster has claimed the lives of close to 1,5000 and 51,000 more are still missing. Survivors continue to be found in the rubble. One precious life was an 18-day old baby.

The month of June is all about celebrating pride in Toronto. All the sexual letters of the alphabet are in full display around the city. There will be a pride parade and many other events. But will anyone remember the murder Emanuel Jaques? He was an innocent 12 year old boy trying to earn a few dollars for his poor family. He was lured, then tortured and sodomized to death by three men: Saul David Betesh, Robert Kribs and Joseph Woods. Two were homosexuals and one a pedophile. The three were convicted of murder.
Jaques was born in 1964. He was the son of an immigrant Portuguese family. He worked as a shoeshine on Yonge Street, in downtown Toronto. Last Wednesday the liturgy celebrated the Solemnity of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist. He is the last of the prophets who prepared and proclaimed the coming of Christ. He made the way for the baptism of the Holy Spirit. We read from the Gospel according to Luke 1:57‑66, 80:

Why isn't the Catholic Church celebrating 4 centuries of Christian roots in Canada this year? It was 400 years ago when St. Jean de Brebeuf and his companions began to sacrifice their lives to evangelize the Indigenous people and promote the Christian faith.
In 1624, Brebeuf first arrived in New France, (presently Quebec), and then travelled to Huronia, (today Midland, Ontario), to establish a mission.
The Jesuit priest spent 23 years with the Hurons, (today the Wendat First Nation), from 1626-1649. Together with his priest colleagues and two laymen, they learned the local language, lived with the local people, studied their history and culture. In 1642, Brebeuf composed the "Huron Carol" which is Canada's oldest Christmas song.
In 1649, Brebeuf and his five companions along with the two laymen were captured, tortured and killed by the Iroquois who were at war with the Hurons. The Canadian Martyrs are: Saint Jean de Brébeuf, Saint Isaac Jogues, Saint Gabriel Lalemant, Saint Antoine …

Today, June 22, and another memo from the leadership of the Ontario Catholic School Trustees' Association, OCSTA. It was sent to member trustees. The issue: "Catholic Trustee Professional Development and Faith Formation Resources/Opportunities."
The memo reminds the trustees that "the Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association places high priority on supporting Catholic School Trustees in fulfilling their role as Stewards, Advocates and Servant and Political Leaders of the precious gift of publicly funded Catholic education." In addition, the message tells trustees that:
“In the long run, your service as Catholic Trustee will be effective as to the extent to which you yourselves are willing to be continually educated in the faith. This will provide you with the depth and vision necessary to make your role a noble political task.”

Harvard University markets the failing DIE policy
For years now every governemnt and institution, including schools, organizations and corporation, have adopted some form of the policy of DIE, diversity, inclusion and equity. Success at school and the workforce is based on sex, sexual orientation, gender, race and ethnicity. Identity trumps merit. Equity and inclusive education has become a priority.
However, Harvard University has taken DIE a step further. It markets its "Executive" course about lgbtq identity and the DIE policy. For just $5,100 corporate leaders can be trained on how best to implement this toxic and divisive policy in their places of work. Harvard wants to provide excellence when it comes to influencing the direction of schools, governemnt agencies, corporation and nonprofits. Those in control want this failing policy to continue to shape society.

Today America marks Juneteenth Day. It's a federal holiday to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. The annual June 19 celebration began under President Joe Biden in 2019. It was on this day in 1865 that Union troops got to Galveston, Texas, to free the last enslaved people in the United States.
Fast forward and the central question for Americans 161 years later is this: are we really free? This is the question for the entire West as there are forces from the rich and powerful to control every aspect of citizenry life.
