Statement on the Motu Proprio «Traditionis Custodes» - By Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke

Many faithful – laity, ordained and consecrated – have expressed to me the profound distress which the Motu Proprio «Traditionis Custodes» has brought them. Those who are attached to the Usus Antiquior(More Ancient Usage) [UA], what Pope Benedict XVI called the Extraordinary Form, of the Roman Rite are deeply disheartened by the severity of the discipline which the Motu Proprio imposes and offended by the language it employs to describe them, their attitudes and their conduct. As a member of the faithful, who also has an intense bond with the UA, I fully share in their sentiments of profound sorrow.
As a Bishop of the Church and as a Cardinal, in communion with the Roman Pontiff and with a particular responsibility to assist him in his pastoral care and governance of the universal Church, I offer the following observations:

Traditionis Custodes: The New Atom Bomb
Seventy-six years ago, on July 16, 1945, the first atomic bomb was detonated in a lonely desert 210 miles south of Los Alamos, New Mexico. Today, on July 16, 2021, Pope Francis has dropped an atom bomb on the Catholic Church that will harm not just those who “adhere to the Latin liturgical tradition” but everyone who values continuity and coherence, reverence and beauty, our heritage and our future.
The document is dripping with condescension and heartlessness, designed like a Swiss Army knife to equip bishops with as many ways of inconveniencing or hounding tradition-loving Catholics as possible.
As I opened up Traditionis Custodes this morning, my eyebrows rose at the improbable title (Traditionis Perditores, “Destroyers of Tradition,” would have been far more accurate), and then my incredulity rose with each paragraph. The Persecution Has Started: English Monastery Stops Celebrating Roman Mass
Following Francis' Traditionis Custodes and instructions from Clifton Bishop Declan Lang, 71, England, the two Glastonbury Benedictines end celebrating the Roman Rite.
Father Bede Rowe announced on his blog on July 17 that Saturday's 12.30pm Roman Mass at Glastonbury will be the last there.
Until now, the community, which was erected by Bishop Lang in August 2019, sang the Divine Office and the Conventual Mass according to the Roman Rite, which St Benedict already knew. The monks also serve Novus Ordo parishes. They are based in a presbytery and are thus at the mercy of the diocese.

Motu Proprio Abolishing Summorum Pontificum WORSE than expected
Francis published on July 16 the Motu Proprio with the sarcastic title Traditionis Custodes (Guardians of Tradition) on the use of the Roman liturgy prior to the 1970 "reform."
It was released only in Italian and *English*. Francis decrees the falsehood that Paul VI' Novus Ordo - which is no "rite" but a jumble of liturgical experiments - is the "unique expression" of the Roman Rites, thus contradicting Benedict's idea of two forms of the Roman Rite.
From now on, it belongs again to the diocesan bishop - as it was before Summorum Pontificum - to dictate the liturgical celebrations of his diocese, and it is “his exclusive competence to authorise the use of the 1962 Roman Missal in his diocese.”
The bishop must determine that Old Rite Catholics “do not deny the validity and the legitimacy of the [failed] liturgical reform, dictated by Vatican Council II.”
He can designate one or more locations where the Old Rite faithful may …
Giving the power over liturgy to bishops? The thing is, this new motu proprio restricts bishops' authority in their own dioceses by dictating precisely how they are to allow implementation of the TLM of they choose to do so. It also forbids bishops from permitting new TLM parishes in their dioceses.

Der Begriff "Schwarzfahrer" für Menschen, die ohne einen gültigen Fahrschein ein öffentliches Verkehrmittel nutzen, geriet unter Rassismusverdacht. Zwei Nahverkehrsbetriebe reagierten nun.
Die Verkehrbetriebe von München und Berlin entschieden sich, zukünftig auf die Wortwahl "Schwarzfahrer" zu verzichten, da sich dadurch Menschen rassistisch beleidigt fühlen könnten.
Schwarzfahren bezeichnet im allgemeinen deutschen Sprachgebrauch die Nutzung von Zug, Bus oder auch Straßenbahn, ohne den dafür erforderlichen Fahrpreis zu entrichten. Die Verbindung der Farbe Schwarz ist hier eindeutig – in ethischer Hinsicht – mit etwas Negativem, nämlich dem bewussten Nichtentrichten der geforderten Gebühr für die Fahrkarte, verbunden.

The whole question of vaccines has been simmering in Catholic circles for a while. When COVID vaccines started to be developed, this came up more. Now that we are closing in on approval, it is a big issue. I decided to write a piece on the Moderna and Pfizer mRNA vaccines. My unique angle is to examine degrees of remoteness in cooperation in evil or appropriation of evil. The main point being that once you get to these the steps are so remote that we should have no moral issues using these vaccines.
