On August 28, the U.S. Justice Department released a 231-page report on the FBI’s 2023 Richmond Catholic memo, including evidence of surveillance of traditionalist Catholic clergy. The FBI investigated two priests and conducted surveillance connected to them. One belonged to the Priestly Fraternity of St. Pius X (FSSPX); the other, his uncle, was associated with SSPX Resistance and had been ordained by Bishop Richard Williamson. German Church Cancels November Synodal Conference as Vatican Delays Approval: The first “Synodal Conference” of the Church in Germany, scheduled to take place in Stuttgart on November 6–7, has been postponed, Domradio reported on August 28. The main reason is that the statutes are still awaiting the necessary recognition from the Vatican. Hotel rooms that had been reserved for the November meeting have been cancelled. The president of the German Bishops’ Conference, Bishop Heiner Wilmer of Hildesheim, had already said in May that, given the ongoing review by several Vatican dicasteries, he no longer expected the Synodal Conference to begin in November.
