The Church’s “Special Forces”…
Liturgy of October 11, 2026– 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Dear brothers and sisters, the saints—like Saint Paul—are part of the Church’s “special forces,” so to speak; in fact, they are trained by God to face every situation, even extreme ones, in order to carry on the cause of the Gospel…
Indeed, in the passage from the Letter to the Philippians that we're going to listen to on Sunday, October 11, Saint Paul states: “I am trained for anything and everything—for plenty and for hunger, for abundance and for want” (Phil 4:12-13).
With an unshakeable fidelity to Christ: “Who, then, will separate us from the love of Christ? Tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or hunger, or nakedness, or danger, or the sword? Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us” (Rom 8:35, 37).
Ready to die in order to win brothers and sisters for God. “I have made myself all things to all people, so that by all means I might save some” (1 Corinthians 9:19-23).
In short, to use a sports metaphor: they are the “tough ones” whom God sends “onto the field” when the “going gets tough”—as it is today, at the beginning of the third millennium.
