Did Leo XIV Appoint a Freemason to the Vatican?

On August 13, Leo XIV appointed Umberto Longo, Director of the Italian Historical Institute for the Middle Ages in Rome and Professor of Medieval History at the secular Sapienza University of Rome, as a member of the Pontifical Committee for Historical Sciences.
The online footprint of Umberto Longo repeatedly places that name - and, in later cases, an identifiable Professor Longo - within the institutional environment of Italian Freemasonry and the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite. The examples span a decade.
2013 - Scottish Rite, Lazio: The Masonic publication LOGOS identifies a certain “Fr. Oratore Umberto Longo 4°” as an officer of the Loggia di Perfezione Maestri Segreti “Giano” in Rome.
The publication introduces a series of texts under the heading: “Le Tavole del Fr. Oratore Umberto Longo 4°.” The abbreviation Fr. is used throughout for Fratello - “Brother” - while the number identifies the Scottish Rite degree. More importantly, the issue contains the official 2013 officers …More

Current affairs and culture in light of the Fatima message. By Providential Design : Melbourne’s Indispensable Latin Mass Revival 8–12 minutes This article describes the early history of the Latin Mass revival during the 1970’s around Melbourne, Victoria including the genesis of two SSPX parishes. By Marc J de Castella In my recent article, “A Life Changing Blessing,” I recounted some details concerning the Catholic settlement at “St Benedict’s” in the Upper Yarra Valley, Victoria, Australia. I described the polemics arising from the post-conciliar “reforms,” most notably, the polarising impact of the radical liturgical changes imposed upon the Melbourne Archdiocese in the early to mid 1970’s. Eager to avoid the unpleasant atmosphere at Rev. Heffey’s community chapel, which was fraught with tension, some families, (including mine), began attending the Novus Ordo at St Joseph’s Catholic Parish in the nearby town of Yarra Junction. Although it was 1974, Communion in the hand had not yet …

Priest apologizes for participating in translating for Novus Ordo - Pax Orbis

Damian Keller at The Traditional Catholic Commentaries has a new video on the late Fr. Stephen Sommerville, a priest who renounced his role in creating the Novus Ordo Missae. From Damian Keller: Fr Stephen Somerville was a young priest at the time who translated the Latin into the English Novus Ordo for the International Commission on English in the Liturgy. The consequences are evident. Click image to watch the video Fr. Somerville’s letter begins: Dear Fellow Catholics in the Roman Rite, I am a priest who for over ten years collaborated in a work that became a notable harm to the Catholic Faith. I wish now to apologize before God and the Church and to renounce decisively my personal sharing in that damaging project. I am speaking of the official work of translating the new post-Vatican II Latin liturgy into the English language, when I was a member of the Advisory Board of the International Commission on English Liturgy (I.C.E.L.). 1 Fr. 60 reasons not to attend the Novus Ordo Missae - Pax Orbis

First published in English in 1983, “60 Reasons” was written by a group of priests to explain why they refused to celebrate the Novus Ordo. A short background to the English edition is given below, followed by the text itself. Thanks to S. D. McLean of the traditionalist journal “Catholic”, for this unique and valuable article. Background to the English version by S. D. McLean Father Patrick Fox C.M. was ordained to the priesthood on 30 November, 1939, the Feast of Saint Andrew. The 40th anniversary of his ordination was marked in 1980 by the people of his Mass Centre at East Lindfield in Sydney and the Greythorn Mass Centre in Melbourne. They presented him with a ticket to Europe. Whilst there he went to Lourdes where he met some of the priests from the Diocese of Campos in Brazil. These priests, with their Bishop, Antonio de Castro Meyer, had rejected the Novus Ordo Missae (NOM) from its inception on the First Sunday of Advent, 1969. Bishop Castro de Meyer in 1973. Pope Leo appoints pro-LGBT Australian archbishop to Dicastery for Evangelisation - Pax Orbis

Archbishop Peter Comensoli of Melbourne, Victoria, who is known for his support for LGBT Catholics and ecumenical dialogue, was appointed to the position on June 27th by Pope Leo, along with Archbishop Filippo Iannone O Carm and Archbishop Èric de Moulins-Beaufort. by Kathy Clubb Archbishop Comensoli will join the Section for Fundamental Questions regarding Evangelisation in the World; another area of the Dicastery deals with First Evangelisation and New Particular Churches. The Dicastery for Evangelisation is presided over directly by the Roman pontiff. The role of the dicastery, according to its constitution: ‘serves the work of evangelisation, so that Christ, the light of the nations, may be known and witnessed to by word and deed, and the Church, his mystical Body, may be built up.’ One problem becomes immediately obvious: Peter Comensoli has little idea of what constitutes the Catholic Church. For him and those who surround him, “Church” is a loosely-defined conglomeration of …

“My soul magnifies the Lord,
47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
48 for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant.
For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed;
49 for he who is mighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his name.
50 And his mercy is for those who fear him
from generation to generation.
51 He has shown strength with his arm;
he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts;
52 he has brought down the mighty from their thrones
and exalted those of humble estate;
53 he has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
54 He has helped his servant Israel,
in remembrance of his mercy,
55 as he spoke to our fathers,
to Abraham and to his offspring forever.

Fatima and Russia - Pax Orbis

The war in Ukraine confronts Russia with the dilemma of its schism from the Church (and therefore from the Christian West to which it was once united – it did not definitively split from Rome until the fourteenth century) in a way it has never experienced in its history. This schism now runs through the middle of “Russian” society itself; Kiev, which is still considered to be Russian’s original cultural heartland by Russian nationalism, has committed itself to the West forever. The only way of avoiding Russia’s permanent schism from its Kievan origins is that predicted in Fatima’s message: conversion. Russia at the edge of the abyss The recent attack by several Russian drones on the Cathedral of the Dormition in Kiev – starting a fire that almost destroyed the building – is one more sign that Moscow does not expect to succeed in its invasion of Ukraine. Attacking one of the most important churches in Eastern rite Christianity (it’s not accurate say “Orthodox” Christianity in this case …

Points of references here ("West" that abandoned Christianity and today Ukraine as corresponding to "Kievan origins") are false.
Moreover, even if we assume the first (false) point - it is not true that today Ukraine has committed itself to the West forever.
Demons of the past that were, to some extent, chased out from Germany, are alive in Ukraine (cult of Bandera, Shukhevych and their monstrous, satanic, neo-pagan heritage).
The West again (as Hitler's Germany during WWII) is tolerating this monstrosity, even enkindling (as they hold them useful for present moment i.e. Ukraine war with Russia, just as they were feeding the Soviets during WWII). …More

LISTEN: SSPX Priest’s Excellent Homily After The Excommunication

In response to the consecrations of four SSPX bishops last Wednesday, Pope Leo XIV has taken exceedingly strong measures. He has declared that bishops, priests, and all formal adherents of the SSPX are excommunicated. That means those who “participate habitually in the celebrations of the Society of St. Pius X and formally share formally their doctrinal positions.” These measures are extremely harsh because the Vatican has refused to use the penalty of excommunication for many very serious situations in the Church in the past 60 years. You can deny the Catholic faith publicly, you can offer very scandalous Masses, you can show approval for same sex couples, for divorce and other forms of immorality.But these actions have not resulted in excommunication by those who have done them, in the Church, since the Second Vatican Council. And, certainly, it is extreme and novel for the Vatican to not only excommunicate the bishops of the SSPX, but to excommunicate hundreds of thousands of Catholic …

Excommunication Decree of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith - Pax Orbis

The following decree of excommunication with its accompanying note were issued by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith on July 2nd, 2026. These unjust documents refer to the July 1st, 2026 episcopal consecrations of the Society of Saint Pius X and impose the penalty of excommunication on the two consecrating bishops as well as the four new bishops. Further, the Note explains that the faithful who ‘formally adhere’ to the SSPX are also excommunicated and to be considered schismatics. Additionally, any sacraments dispensed by the clergy of the SSPX are now illicit and the sacraments of penance and matrimony are now considered by Rome to be invalid. Decree of excommunication Decree of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, 02.07.2026 Prot. N. 99/2009 DECREE Despite the warnings addressed to the Superior General of the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X, Bishop Alfonso de Galarreta, having committed an act of a schismatic nature by consecrating four priests as bishops without …

Letter of Pope Leo XIV to the Superior General of the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X - Pax Orbis

This is the full text of the letter sent by Pope Leo to the Superior General of the Society of Saint Pius X on the eve on the episcopal consecrations. To The Reverend Davide Pagliarani Superior General of the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X With a paternal heart, and aware of the responsibility entrusted to me by the Lord as the Successor of the Apostle Peter, I address you and, through you, the bishops, priests, seminarians and faithful connected to the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X. The Church recognizes the devotion to liturgical life, commitment to priestly formation, apostolic zeal and desire for fidelity to Tradition that characterize many people and communities connected to your Fraternity. This has motivated the attentive and generous attitude that my Predecessors have consistently shown to you. In this spirit, and filled with Christian affection, I plead with you and ask you with all my heart: please turn back! I urge you to consider carefully the spiritual good of …

The "disarming of language" applies to the faithful readers of *Magnifica Humanitas*, while Leo's "fatherly heart" arms itself with threats. He intends to withhold heavenly graces from the faithful of the FSSPX ("invalid sacraments"). Yet he could bypass excommunication, just as he did with the heretical, communist-appointed bishops of the Chinese National Church—a body that does not even acknowledge the papacy in principle. Alternatively, he could acknowledge canon law in its ENTIRETY: no penalty applies in cases of apprehended necessity (Canon 1323, No. 7 CIC).
